In 2001, he became the Group Safety Manager at Glencore/Xstrata Coal, where he played a pivotal role in establishing and implementing the company’s safety standards.
David is a HSEC specialist with 45 years of active experience in the resources industry, initially supervising and managing coal mines in NSW, Australia, within Rio Tinto for 20 years before being appointed as their Corporate Safety Manager in 1998.In 2001, he became the Group Safety Manager at Glencore/Xstrata Coal, where he played a pivotal role in establishing and implementing the company’s safety standards.In 2011, David moved to Glencore’s Swiss head office as General Manager Sustainability with the Xstrata Iron Ore department, and in 2013 was appointed as General Manager HSEC Risk Management to develop and implement a new approach to HSEC management, including system standardization and hands-on implementation across 150 operations and 50 countries.David has been semi-retired since late 2021. He became qualified as a NSW Australia Coal Mine Manager in 1982, and holds a Graduate Diploma in Minerals Industry Risk Management from the University of Queensland (2007), and a Diploma in Company Directorship (2011) from the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
